He is incredibly fascinated with this faction, their movements, motives, and operations. Nobody really knows where Tiberius came from. Sometimes it's speculated that only [[The Dark Mistress]] or Tiberius' [[Mind-Wight|mind-wight]] knows where Tiberius truly comes from. Most know him as a crazy old man that has traveled quite extensively. Regardless, recent conversations have been had with members of the Lashai that lead some to believe he comes from a life steeped in Lash affairs. ### Early Life Tiberius doesn't share much about his past; but, it is speculated that he has had a terrible past with The Lashai. Every fiber of his being seems to be dedicated to their demise. Concrete facts about Tiberius' past seem to be as fickle and fleeting as his speech patterns. %% Many years ago, in a land ruled by powerful, villainous groups, there lived a boy named Kheytash. His parents, Ceso and Lanavurrant, were rich, important, and inconceivably vile. They ran [[Kovari Enterprises]]—perhaps the most atrocious organization to ever exist and made money moving goods, people, and weapons around the world—gaining power through clever deals and quiet threats. Kheytash was born into that world. He was [[Kalashtar|kalashtar]], but not like the traditional kalashtar of lands to the east. Instead of being gifted a kind mind-wight, he was born bound to a mare. This treacherous entity tormented Kheytash (even as a baby). Outside his mind, his "caretakers" treated him more like a project than a son. His parents didn’t hug him or tell him they were proud. They only spoke to him telepathically, teaching him complicated things and punishing him if he made mistakes. At first, Kheytash tried hard to make his parents proud. He studied, learned fast, and even showed signs of unique magical talent. But, Kheytash started seeing ghostly figures and hearing voices no one else could hear, his parents thought something was wrong with him. His father grew angry and ashamed of Kheytash. He called his son weak, and a failure, beat him, and eventually, sent him away to live with his uncle, Yenşik. Life with Yenşik was much harder on Kheytash. The days were filled with brutal training. Much of the Lashai's operations that were hidden from Kheytash when he was younger were shoved in his face. He faced slavery, adultery, rape, torture, genocide, and more. Every day, he would be worked until his muscles ached and his mind grew tired from the intense psychological and psionic training cycles. Regardless, no matter how hard he tried to suppress the ghastly presence(es), the strange visions kept coming. His uncle eventually gave up on 'helping him', and eventually shackled him in solitary confinement. The only interaction with the outside world would be a daily beating that would take place at a random time of day to grow fear and unrest. He was locked away, tested, tortured, and pushed to the edge of death over and over again. They wanted to break him and rebuild him into something useful—something powerful. But Kheytash held on. He refused to become their weapon. One day, after nearly dying from a terrible beating, something inside him snapped—he broke. He let the voices and visions stir, grow, and manifest. Alone in the dark, he heard a voice—gentle, yet strange. It sounded a little like his mother, but it was deeper and raspier. The voice promised freedom and strength. It promised love, something he had never been able to conceive. That voice belonged to **The Dark Mistress**. It was during these moments that she became his patron, a mysterious and powerful being from the shadows. The next morning, Kheytash was sent to a secret division of The Lashai known as **The Lost**. No one really knew what The Lost did, except that they were dangerous and loyal to the Lashai. Some said they were spies, others called them monsters disguised in flesh. But to Kheytash, they became a very real nightmare. The lost were incredible magic users. They knew ways of torture that were unfathomable to Kheytash. After the first night, he witnessed what was being done to other prisoners and heard their screams. He knew they would present him with a choice: either join them and conduct the work he had just witnessed, or become a subject. Kheytash was running out of time. He was confined... trapped... he had no means of escape. How could he escape? Each division of The Lashai he was sent to was worst than the last. That night, he beckoned to The Dark Mistress and struck a deal with her: eternal servitude in exchange for freedom from his captors. The Dark Mistress wasn't interested in a servant. She wanted something... more. She explained that The Lashai had done wrong by both of them. They barred Khetash from balance by robbing him of a childhood and peace just as they robbed The Dark Mistress by creating an imbalance in the world—plunging the world into a darkness that was out of her control. She would grant Kheytash freedom in exchange for the souls of the Lashai members who wronged her. Kheytash nearly agreed out of desperation but he was cunning—a true survivor. He asked The Dark Mistress for an additional favor, expressing that even if he was to escape, they'd know what he looks like and who he is. Distance wouldn't matter, he'd need a disguise. The Dark Mistress formulated and agreed to creating a disguise for Kheytash. In exchange for freedom he gave up his youth. His face became old and tired, his voice rough like cracked stone. Soon after, his shackles and the various security measures mysteriously began to malfunction. With her help, Kheytash escaped the prison of The Lost and hid in the wilds of the Lost Islands for months, staying one step ahead of those hunting him. He changed his name and clothing time and time again to stay safe. In time, he stopped resembling Kheytash at all—not even an old, beaten Kheytash. Eventually on his journey away from The Lost and The Lash, a kind man asked for his name at a small, tucked away inn. Kheytash paused. He remembered a captain who once helped him escape danger—**Tiberius Karalas** of the _Voktar Glaive_, a flying ship that had vanished during a war. He borrowed part of that name. “I’m **Tiberius Glaive**,” he said. From that moment on, he became someone new. From that moment on, the boy named Kheytash was no more. From that moment on, he became **Tiberius Glaive**. That night, The Dark Mistress came to him again. She reminded him that she had saved him—and now it was time to pay her back. He vowed he would destroy the Lashai, even if it meant killing his own parents. In exchange, she sweetened the deal to peak his motivation. Every Lashai soul Tiberius took would restore a piece of his youth. She smiled. Tiberius smiled. And the pact was solidified. Tiberius made it clear to The Dark Mistress that The Lashai wouldn't be something he could take down on his own—he was well aware of how integrated some of their divisions were. He'd set out on a journey to find powerful, skilled, or desperate adventurers to help him. %% ### Becoming An Adventurer %% Nearly twenty years later, %% Tiberius travels the world, searching for clues, hunting down those who ruined his life. He looks older than he is, but his heart still burns with purpose. One day, aboard a quiet airship flying over distant lands, he meets new people—strange, strong, and full of secrets. Aboard [[The Halberd]] airship, Tiberius meets a young [[H07B. Etho Eraxan (Persona)|Etho Eraxan]], and [[H06. Skivir Firebeard|Skivir Firebeard]]. The two of them join Tiberius in disrupting a bunch of bandits hellbent on taking over the airship. Their collaboration and combined support convinced Tiberius that day, that these would be two of many that would help him dismantle The Lashai. ### Goals & Ambitions Immediately, Tiberius wants to see the end of The Lashai's nefarious actions come to an end. That is is primary goal. Second to that, Tiberius seems to care for his party members and allies deeply and seeks to aid them in their personal endeavors however he can. #### Personal Quests > [!custom-tiberius-quests]- The Mysterious Metal Cube > - [ ] Study the cube and learn more about it—learn more about [[Echo]] and his past. > [!custom-tiberius-quests]- Father Figure Needed > Mendre would have wanted a safe world for his son or daughter—it is likely why he continued to fight the evil plaguing the [[Castlands]] and [[Okarthel]].
