Like [[Dwarf|dwarves]] and other ageless humanoids, they are naturally adept at bending the weave of magic. Some would even say elves are exceptional at magic manipulation when compared to other humanoids on Yanis. --- ### Origin & History Elves trace their lineage to _true elves_—fey demigods who ruled over the utopian world, Feya, which existed deep within The Astral. Their descendants, astral elves, were ancient travelers who fled their dying home to journey across The Astral in search of a new world to call home. Natural helmsmen and navigators, they guided spell-ship fleets through the stars, eventually adapting to long journeys and evolving to rest their minds through brief trances instead of sleep. Their long exposure to the arcane currents of The Astral amplified their skills and made their minds sharp and resilient. Additionally, the long-living elves of Feya developed even longer lifespans during this time, and signs of aging slowed for them due to the effects of the astral. Present day elves have even been rumored to live over a thousand years. When the elves arrived on Yanis-Materia, they created a reflection of their lost home Feya, named Céfeya—which eventually was shortened over time back to Feya, or, occasionally called the Feylands by other humanoids—to be a hidden pocket dimension accessible only to the fey. There, they cultivated life anew, weaving forests, creatures, and magic into harmony. They created the first fey creatures of Yanis, and have been dedicated to cultivating and protecting life ever since. Elves remain tied to both nature and the arcane, graceful and ageless stewards of the world’s beauty and proliferation. --- ### Appearance & Biology Elves are tall, slender, and elegant, their movements effortless and deliberate. Their skin ranges from fair to luminous jewel tones that shimmer with subtle iridescence, while their eyes glimmer like starlight or shifting constellations. Their long, pointed ears are the most pronounced among the ageless races, marking their otherworldly heritage. Though appearing delicate, elves are more resilient than they seem, their bodies and minds enduring centuries with little sign of age. They also have much more dense muscle mass than their slender bodies let on. Elves are incapable or reproducing naturally with other species but have created several descendants through astral artifice or by magical means. --- ### Elf Races %% ##### Astral Elf The first descendants of true elves and perhaps the purest bloodline of elves. Astral elves are incredible navigators and helmsmen. They are much more closely tied to The Astral than most other species. %% ##### Mortal Elf This subspecies of elves is often welcomed by other races and typically outcast by most other elves. They are seen as an abomination due to their shorter ears and **_much_** shorter life spans. ##### Umbral Elf These elves are a branch of elves that could not cope with the natural beauty of Yanis upon arriving and fled to The Umbral World—a deep subterranean realm below the surface of Yanis where there is little light and strange creatures. Umbral elves evolved to thrive in this dark environment turning into ghastly, pallid versions of their former selves. --- ### Species Traits #### Core Traits > [!custom-trait-locked]- 1️⃣ Darkvision. > - Darkvision up to 60 feet. > [!custom-trait-locked]- 1️⃣ Perspicacious Mind. > - Proficiency in insight, perception, or survival. > [!custom-trait-locked]- 2️⃣ Revitalizing Trance. > - Rest requires 4 hours in a meditative state—during which, you retain consciousness—opposed to 8 hours of sleep. > - Gain immunity to the [[Conditions#Sleep|sleep]] condition. #### Optional Traits > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Fey Focus. > - Advantage on saving throws to avoid or end the [[Conditions#Charmed|charmed]] condition. > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Swift Stride. > - Additional 5 feet to walking speed. #### Mortal Elf Traits > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Mortal & Martial. > - Proficiency in any two martial weapons. > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Shared Mortality. > - Proficiency in deception, persuasion, and performance towards humanoids whose life spans are typically one hundred years or shorter. > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Skill Versatility. > - Proficiency in any two skills. > - Replaces **_Perspicacious Mind._** > - Replaces **_Shared Mortality._** #### Umbral Elf Traits > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Umbral Lungs. > - Resistance to [[Combat#Damage|poison]] damage. > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 2️⃣ Superior Darkvision. > - Darkvision up to 120 feet > - Replaces **_Darkvision._** %% #### Astral Elf Traits ##### 1️⃣ Astral Resolve. - Resistance to radiant or psychic damage. - Advantage on saving throws to avoid or end to [[Conditions#Exhaustion|exhaustion]] caused by high altitudes, thin air, or lack of air. ##### 1️⃣ Astral Stride. - Once per long rest, as a bonus action, you may magically teleport up to 30 feet to space you can see costing no movement. - Replaces **_Swift Stride._** %% %% ## Alternate Name Exploration - Ælfyr - ælf, or plural, ylfe (Old Enlgish) - Alfr (Old Norse) - Ælfyrꞇ - ## Version 02 ### Origin & History Elves descend from ***true elves,*** an ancestor who roamed the stars searching for a new world to settle on. Elven ancestors fled a great conflict on their dying home world and traveled across The Astral for millennia. Elves were natural spell-ship admirals and navigators. They evolved to need limited sleep—instead slipping into trances to revitalize the mind. Elves also developed incredibly stable minds, naturally tuned to insight, perception, and survival. As spell-ship admirals and navigators, elves have evolved to live drastically long lives—with some living over 1000 years. Upon reaching Yanis-Materia, elves recreated their home world Feya (or the Feylands) as a pseudo plane that only fey can access at will. Elves then set to work, recreating the vast tapestry of fey creatures from their home world to inhabit Yanis. Elves are cultivators of life through and through. They gravitate to the natural and the arcane. Despite their sometimes alien tendencies, they are wise, graceful, and naturally attuned to the weave of magic. --- ### Appearance & Biology Elves are lithe and elongated, often appearing fragile but are more dense than they appear. They are generally taller than most other species and move with a natural grace and poise. Their skin is smooth and radiant, retaining a youthful, vibrant look. Combined with their typically calm demeanor, this makes it difficult to determine an elf's actual age. While elven skin tends to be paler, it can sometimes exhibit vibrant, jewel-toned hues that shift with the light like iridescence. Their eyes are luminous, often shimmering with patterns that resemble stardust or constellations. Elves also have the longest and most pointed ears among the ageless humanoid species. Though ear shape and size may vary between individuals, they are consistently more elongated and tapered than those of other pointed-ear species. Elves are incapable or reproducing with other species but are capable of reproducing with various elven races. %%
