Halflings of Yanis have descended from nomadic ancestors who in turn were descendants of astral halflings created on [[Fæya I]] before its collapse. Today, their thrill for the outdoors and need to explore lends to them being social creatures; but—in the past—there were tribes of halflings known for being incredible warriors.
---
### Origin & History
Halflings were originally created by _true elves_ back on the original world of Fæya I. They fled the dying world on spell-ships, escaping Fæya I with other species created by _true elves_. Halflings were created to be hunters and gatherers. They also served as druidic doctors and cooks for other astral travelers in the spell-ship fleets. Being small, nimble, and exceptionally good hiders, halflings were very often put in extremely hazardous situations over millennia. Halflings regularly were sent into new worlds to extract plant life and slay dangerous monsters.
After millennia of fighting dangerous creatures on alien worlds, halflings were the only species of the four ageless species that didn't gain incredibly long lifespans as a result of their frequent deaths. Despite this, their exposure to The Astral enhanced halflings' natural instincts and survivalist skills. Some say this is just luck; but, no one knows for sure.
---
### Appearance & Biology
Halflings are the shortest of the four ageless humanoids. They are very nimble and excellent hiders. Their pointed ears are broader but shorter than the other humanoids in their group and modern day halflings tend to have friendly demeanors. Despite their small size, halflings are incredibly strong and dexterous. They are also very wise, and have a natural sense for danger (even in alien environments).
Halfling tribes that maintained their warrior ways, such as the Sabdahvi Tribe, tend to use natural camouflage to blend into their surroundings. This typically means they will have tribal tattoos or wear warrior paint that helps them blend into their grassland surroundings.

### Halfling Races
##### Savage Steppe Halfling
Halflings who retained their savagery from millennia of fighting on alien worlds have diminished to a small selection of tribes located around the realm of Nor. The most notable being the Subdhavi Tribe.
These halflings are incredibly skilled at camouflage and are capable fighters specializing in the art of ambush and surprise attacks.
