They are innately magical beings that are often rejected, or outcast by other draconic species. ### Origin & History No one knows when half-dragons first appeared on Yanis. They are the biological half-breeds spawned from dragons and other humanoid races. Many half-dragons are outcasts—they have no lands to call home. Though some half-dragons are occasionally welcome in human cities and typically much less welcome in dragonborn cities. In larger cities in regions where many species interact often, half-dragons are sometimes numerous enough to form small communities and families of their own. They enjoy the company of other half-dragons as they are the only people who truly understand what it is to live as draconic half-breeds. --- ### Appearance & Biology Half-dragons look strange, alien, and beautiful. Their ears range from long and pointed (if they have an elven parent) to short and stubby (if they have human parents). Some sprout horns towards adult hood like dragonborn; but, half-dragons very rarely have wings and never tails. Half-dragons tend to have vibrant, saturated, draconic eyes, and strong, pointed nails. Like dragonborn, their scale color doesn't perfectly reflect their entire draconic heritage. For example, a red scaled half-dragon may have had a silver scaled dragon as a grandfather and thus may be resistant to cold rather than fire. Once a half-dragon is born of its dragon and humanoid parents, it can only reproduce with other half-dragons. --- ### Species Traits #### Core Traits > [!custom-trait-locked]- 1️⃣ Darkvision. > - Darkvision up to 60 feet. > [!custom-trait-locked]- 2️⃣ Draconic Aura. > - Resistant to one of the following damage types and access to a corresponding cantrip. > - [[Combat#Damage|Acid]], Acid Splash > - [[Combat#Damage|Cold]], Ray of Frost > - [[Combat#Damage|Fire]], Firebolt > - [[Combat#Damage|Lightning]], Shocking Grasp > - [[Combat#Damage|Necrotic]], Chill Touch > - [[Combat#Damage|Poison]], Poison Spray > - [[Combat#Damage|Psychic]], Mind Sliver > - [[Combat#Damage|Radiant]], Sacred Flame > - [[Combat#Damage|Thunder]], Thunderclap > - Your spellcasting ability and modifier for this cantrip is defined by your primary class or constitution if your primary class isn't a spell casting class. #### Optional Traits > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Absorbing Aura. > - A number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, as a reaction, you may provide elemental resistance that matches your **_Draconic Aura_** element to a creature you can see, within 15 feet of you. > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Arcane Escape. > - Once per long rest, as a bonus action, you may magically teleport up to 30 feet to space you can see, costing no movement and avoiding opportunity attacks. > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Draconic Resistance. > - You have advantage on saving throws against spells cast by dragon creatures. > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Elemental Enigma. > - A number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, you may add 1d10 damage to any damage roll so long as the elemental type matches your **_Draconic Aura_** element. > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Illusory Appearance. > - As an action, once per long rest, you may magically disguise yourself and your equipment to look like another humanoid. > - You may seem 1 foot shorter or taller, can appear thin, fat, or in between. > - You can't change your body type—you must remain bipedal. > - To discern that you are disguised, a creature can use its action to inspect your appearance and an investigation check against your DC which equals 8 + your charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus. > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Skill Versatility. > - Proficiency in any two skills. > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Veil Strider. > - Once per long rest, you may turn invisible for rounds up to or equal to your proficiency bonus. %% ## Notes ### Name Options: - Hadramir | ⚠ This page is currently a work in progress—information on this page is subject to change ⚠ | | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Draeqin are the humanoid descendants of dragons. A common misconception is that draeqin are cold blooded like [[squanori]]; but, draeqin are much more closely related to noryan races and typical humanoids and are therefore warm blooded (like mammals). Draeqin, being descendants of dragons, have a variety of different scale colors and physical traits that separate them—sometimes culturally or politically. Most notable of these traits (second only to the scale color themselves), is their elemental affinity and draconic breath. Scale color, their prevalence, and their corresponding breath abilities most notable in Yanis societies are shown in the table below: | **Scale Color** | **Elemental Affinity** | Associated Save | **Prevalence** | | --------------- | ---------------------- | --------------- | -------------- | | Amethyst | Psychic | Intelligence | Very Rare | | Black | Necrotic | Constitution | Common | | Blue | Ice | Dexterity | Common | | Brass | Acid | Dexterity | Common | | Bronze | Elec | Dexterity | Common | | Copper | Poison | Constitution | Common | | Emerald | Poison | Constitution | Rare | | Gold | Fire | Dexterity | Rare | | Green | Poison | Constitution | Common | | Indigo | Thunder | Constitution | Rare | | Lapis | Thunder | Constitution | Uncommon | | Magenta | Elec | Dexterity | Uncommon | | Orange/Brown | Force | Strength | Uncommon | | Opal | Elec | Dexterity | Rare | | Purple | Psychic | Intelligence | Very Rare | | Red | Fire | Dexterity | Common | | Silver | Ice | Dexterity | Uncommon | | Tungsten | Thunder | Constitution | Rare | | Topaz | Acid | Dexterity | Common | | Turquoise | Ice | Constitution | Rare | | Yellow | Acid | Dexterity | Common | Some colored draeqin are rumored in historic tales or stories but none have been seen. The draeqin scale types listed in the table below have never been seen, are speculated to have never existed, and/or to have gone extinct. | **Scale Color** | **Potential Elemental Affinity** | **Prevalence** | | --------------- | -------------------------------- | -------------- | | Adamantine | Unknown | Non-existent | | Citrine | Unknown | Non-existent | | Crystal | Unknown | Non-existent | | Gray | Unknown | Non-existent | | Lead | Unknown | Non-existent | | Mercury | Unknown | Non-existent | | Mithral | Unknown | Non-existent | | Moonstone | Unknown | Non-existent | | Obsidian | Unknown | Non-existent | | Platinum | Radiant | Non-existent | | Ruby | Fire | Non-existent | | Titanium | Unknown | Non-existent | ### Draconic Breath Unlike other fantasy worlds, in Yanis, when you take the [[Attack]] action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with an exhalation of magical energy in a 15-foot cone or a 30-foot line that is 5 feet wide. Each creature in that area must make a saving throw (DC = 8 + your the designated modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failed save, the creature takes 1d10 damage of the type associated with your elemental affinity. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage. This damage increases by 1d10 when you reach 5th level (2d10), 11th level (3d10), and 17th level (4d10). %%
