### Origin & History
Humanoids exposed to the dream planes for generations eventually evolved into Kalashtar: humanoids with psionic abilities. Humanoids living on [[The Plane of Reverie]] and [[The Plane of Nightmares]] evolved independently into two separate races of the same species: rever-bound kalashtar and mare-bound kalashtar respectively.
Due to the incredibly volatile and dangerous nature of the dream planes, more kalashtar live on the material plane now than on the dream planes. This transition to the material plane has caused a duality effect. Kalashtar tend to be tethered to a _dreamwalker_ who resides on The Plane of Reverie or The Plane of Nightmares (depending on whether the kalashtar is rever-bound or mare-bound). This dreamwalker is an aspect of kalashtar that roams the dream planes and projects their experiences directly to their partner kalashtar. This relationship with their dreamwalker prevents kalashtar from dreaming like normal humanoids. Instead, when they sleep, they interact with their dreamwalker.

### Appearance & Biology
Kalashtar look nearly identical to humans. They can occasionally flash glowing violet or magenta colored eyes. This mostly occurs when kalashtar initiate their psionic abilities or when they interact with the weave; though, kalashtar can learn to subdue this with practice. Occasionally, kalashtar can have alien-like features such as elongated necks or taller foreheads and cranial portions of their head.
Large kalashtar civilizations are few and far between, but the most notable and well known seems to be the civilizations found across [[Kaava]] (specifically in [[Surak Thikaava]] and [[Wat Mutti]]). Here, kalashtar typically have dark brown skin hues and jet black hair.
Kalashtar are capable of reproducing with other humanoids but their psionic abilities and much of their genetics only seem to pass down when reproducing with other kalashtar.
If rever-bound kalashar and mare-bound kalashtar reproduce, the offspring has a 50-50 chance of being either race.
##### Mare-Bound Kalashtar
Mare-bound kalashtar descend from kalashtar who lived on The Plane of Nightmares for generations. Their dreamwalker echoes reside there and beam haunting imagery of their world directly into their kalashtar counterpart's mind while they 'sleep'. Because of this, mare-bound kalashtar tend to be more gloomy, melancholy, dejected, etc.—some even become sadistic due to the prolonged exposure to their nightmarish aspect.
##### Rever-Bound Kalashtar
Contrastingly, rever-bound kalashtar hail from ancestors residing on The Plane of Reverie. Rever-bound dreamwalkers tend to be zany and cheery. They have child-like spirits and often cause their material counterparts to be optimistic, confident, curious beings—though some can be overbearing or too chaotic and cause their material counterpart to develop mental strain or degrees of madness.
