The curse is speculated to have some kind of origin tied to doppelgangers as changelings have strikingly similar appearances and abilities to those of doppelgangers. This curse is so potent, it has permanently ingrained itself into the changeling's very being. As with most cursed beings, changelings usually have a negative reception among other humanoids. There is a negative stereotype surrounding changelings: that they are shady, deceptive, or mischievous by nature. Thus, changelings are rarely seen in their natural form wandering around towns or cities. Rarely, some changelings will gather together and form societies where they feel more comfortable as their natural selves. --- ### Appearance & Biology Naturals at misdirection and disguise, changelings can look like almost anyone. Despite having this ability, they have a true or 'natural' form. In their natural form, changelings look remotely close to doppelgangers. When compared to humans, they appear pallid and lacking definition yet striking. Changeling have a gray and gauzy outer skin. Their skin tones are either stark white or light gray, though there are a reversed 'albino' changeling that have extremely dark outer skin. Changeling have thin, fair hair that are commonly colored a hue-less gray or silvery-white color with little if any body or facial hair. In regard to eye shape, changelings have large colorless or blank white eyes that often appear milky and emotionless. Their noses, lips, and mouths are often smaller and thinner than humans, even barely noticeable expressionless and featureless. Despite all of these bland facial and body features, their features are still more distinctive than those of doppelgangers. A changeling's height typically ranges between 5 to 6 feet (1.5 to 1.8 meters) in height and some can change their height from goliath to halfling size. They tend to have slender, almost frail-looking, bodies appear gangly or ill-proportioned, with limbs slightly longer than other humanoids. Though they have longer, disproportioned limbs, they are still graceful and well-balanced. In contrast to doppelgangers, changelings display sexual characteristics in their natural form and have a default sex, though they can alter these at will—becoming male, female, both, or neither, with associated or mis-matching reproductive systems. With such incredible shapeshifting abilities, most changelings rarely display their natural form. They prefer to adopt all kinds of humanoid bodies and personalities, treating their appearance like other species treat clothing. A changeling typically keeps a few preferred appearances and personas. It's a common practice among changelings to keep signature features throughout all forms, such as a mole, birth mark, or distinctive hair color. Given changelings can change their bodies to any humanoid form they're familiar with, they can also reproduce with any other species. There is a 50 percent chance that a changeling's child will receive the changeling curse. --- ### Species Traits > [!custom-trait-locked]- 0️⃣ All-Consuming Curse. > - Immune to all other curses. #### Core Traits > [!custom-trait-locked]- 3️⃣ Shapechange. > - As an action, you can change your appearance and your voice.
