Long ago, a twisted hag cursed a halfling man and permanently changed his appearance into that of a rabbit-looking humanoid. The curse seems to manifest in slightly different ways depending on the bloodline and how closely related a harengon is to the original harengon; but, some common traits seem to persist regardless: - Most harengon trigger wild magic surges when using divine magic or divination spells. - All harengon feel the urge to reproduce constantly—a side effect of the curse seems to make them multiply quickly. This urge is often curbed by the fact that harengon tend to be very wise (perhaps another quality from the curse) affording them self-awareness and strong will power. - Finally, the curse masks all luck halflings typically have. --- ### Appearance & Biology Harengon are roughly the same height as halflings but tend to be taller due to their ears. They come in a variety of fur colors—colors similar to rabbits and hares: black, brown, gray, etc. Harengon typically look more leporine than humanoid; but, there are some strands of the curse that cause less-prominent leporine features. --- ### Species Traits > [!custom-trait-locked]- 0️⃣ All-Consuming Curse. > - Immune to all other curses. #### Core Traits > [!custom-trait-locked]- 1️⃣ Hare-Trigger. > - You can add your proficiency bonus to your initiative rolls. > [!custom-trait-locked]- 2️⃣ Boundless Leap. > - As a bonus action, you may jump up to twice your strength score plus your proficiency bonus in distance while avoiding opportunity attacks. > - You can use it a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. > - You can’t use this bonus if you’re [[Conditions#Prone|prone]] or your speed is 0. > [!custom-trait-locked]- 1️⃣ Leporine Senses. > - You can add your proficiency bonus to your perception checks and can roll perception checks with advantage when they rely solely on hearing. > [!custom-trait-locked]- ➖ 1️⃣ Unfortunate Urge. > - Disadvantage on saving throws to avoid or end the [[Conditions#Charmed|charmed]] condition. #### Optional Traits > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Cast Shadow Camouflage. > - Advantage on stealth checks when hiding within 5 feet of larger creatures. > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Escape Artistry. > - May move through any medium or larger creature's space (but cannot stop in said creature's space). > - Advantage on saving throws to avoid or end the [[Conditions#Grappled|grappled]] condition. > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Fortune from the Many. > - If you miss with an attack roll or fail an ability check or a saving throw, you can draw on your bonds of reciprocity to gain a bonus to the roll equal to the number of allies you can see within 30 feet of you (maximum bonus of +3).
