They are the youngest species of natural humanoids to evolve on Yanis and are often very in-tune with the planet's natural order. Whether raised in a city or out in the wilds, catfolk are skilled survivalists at heart. They can adapt to a multitude of environments. Using their cunning and dexterous form, catfolk often outwit others easily—making them excellent rangers, thieves, or assassins. Today, catfolk have some major societies across Yanis. The most notable being some towns and villages spread throughout northern [[Fin]]—settlements like [[Feska]] being a prime example. They are typically aloof, individualists, but can occasionally travel together, especially if young ones need caretakers. --- ### Appearance & Biology Catfolk appearances range wildly. Some are spotted, some have stripes. One catfolk might have short, stumpy ears while another has tall, pointed ears. There are as many looks for catfolk as there are for cats; but, one key differentiator in race for catfolk is their stature or frame. Read more about catfolk races below. Despite being the only mammalian humanoid species native to Yanis, catfolk are incapable of reproducing with other species. --- ### Catfolk Races ##### Slendercat Catfolk (formerly Tabaxi) *Slendercats* or *sly catfolk* are catfolk who are typically thinner and more nimble and resemble feline beasts like cheetah or spotted leopards. They also tend to have longer appendages and limbs and have incredible poise and balance. ##### Broadcat Catfolk (formerly Leonin) *Broadcats* or *bold catfolk* are typically larger and much more muscular. They have wide frames and tend to resemble that of large wildcat beasts like lions and tigers. --- ### Species Traits #### Core Traits > [!custom-trait-locked]- 1️⃣ Cat's Claws. > - Your claws are natural weapon, which count as a simple melee weapons with which you are proficient. > - You add strength or dexterity modifier—whichever is higher—to the attack and damage rolls when you attack with your claws. > - It deals 1d6 slashing damage on a hit. > [!custom-trait-locked]- 1️⃣ Cat Senses. > - You have proficiency in the Perception and Stealth skills. > [!custom-trait-locked]- 1️⃣ Darkvision. > - Darkvision up to 60 ft. > [!custom-trait-locked]- 1️⃣ Natural Climber. > - Climbing speed of 30 ft. #### Optional Traits > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Nine Lives. > - Once per short rest, you may reroll a failed death saving throw, potentially turning it into a success. > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Fall Footing. > - If you fall from a height equal to or less than 10 times your dexterity modifier (a minimum of 1), you take half damage. #### Slendercat Catfolk Traits > [!custom-trait-unlocked]- 1️⃣ Feline Agility. > - Your reflexes and agility allow you to move with a burst of speed.
