# Portable Hole > [!info] Item Details > | | | > |---|---| > | **Category** | Wondrous Items | > | **Rarity** | Rare | > | **Attunement** | No | > | **Source** | DMG p.185 | --- ## Description This fine black cloth, soft as silk, unfolds into a circular sheet 6 feet in diameter. By placing the sheet on any solid surface, you create an extradimensional hole 10 feet deep. The hole exists on a different plane. Any creature inside the portable hole can exit by climbing out. You can use an action to close the hole by folding up the cloth; any creature inside is expelled to the nearest unoccupied space. Placing a portable hole inside an extradimensional space created by a bag of holding, Heward's handy haversack, or similar item instantly destroys both items and opens a gate to the Astral Plane. --- ## Properties - Unfolds to a **6-ft sheet**; placing it on a surface creates a **10-ft deep extradimensional hole**. - Action to fold and close; creatures inside are expelled to the nearest open space. - **Do not place** inside another extradimensional space — both are destroyed and an Astral gate opens. - No attunement required.
