While the tattoo is on your skin, you gain resistance to one type of damage that the DM chooses or randomly determines. When you take damage of that type, you can use your reaction to gain immunity to that damage type until the start of your next turn, including against the triggering damage. You also gain a number of temporary hit points equal to half the damage you would have taken.
