## Description
A common mineral valued for its high phosphorus content, abundant in many rocks, teeth, and bones. It channels lunar energy, opens the third eye, and controls light.
### Physical Description
A common name for a wide variety of common phosphate minerals, further divided into types depending on their chemical composition and color, ranging from white to brown, with the most prevalent being green, blue, and yellow hues. Apatite's hardness is best compared to the hardness of tooth enamel—of which it is a major compoment.

## Occurrence
Apatite in its various forms is exceedingly common, from sedimentary to igneous to metamorphic rocks. It is usually founds as variously colored crystals, masses, or nodules. As a mineral, it makes up the teeth and bones of all vertebrate animals, and has even been found on the moon.
### Extraction & Preparation
Apatite is mined through usual methods, most commonly from sedimentary rocks. It is very sensitive to abrasives, heat, acids, and ammonia, therefore should be handled carefully and cleaned with mild soap and soft cloth to preserve the gem's luster.

## Properties
### Decorative Properties
Use ground apatite as pigment for paints and enamel. Softness and brittleness make it hard to cut and polish, so apatite in gem form is rather uncommon. Very rarely, the mineral displays chatoyancy, and these gems shining like cat's eyes reach much higher prices than polished or faceted pieces.
### Industrial Properties
Worldwide, almost all of apatite (and other phosphate rocks) is used to manufacture fertilizers, animal feed supplements, and elemental phosphorus for production of other chemical compounds.
### Magical Properties
Apatite carries a strong connection to the Moon. Charged in moonlight overnight, it draws in and stores lunar energy for future spellwork, providing a convenient source of power for any moon-, light-, or darkness- related practices. Apatite partially controls the circadian rhythm, bestows sleep and rest, and controls the amount of light reaching one's eyes—potentially even taking away or restoring the ability to see. The stone opens the third eye, making the practitioner more open to extrasensory perception. It aids divination and strengthens intuition, which makes it especially coveted by prophets and occult investigators. It helps to establish a link with the divine or cosmic forces and may provide outof- body experiences. Attuned to the stellar bodies, apatite is a guiding stone of astrologists and astronomers, as well as those just wishing upon a star. Apatite is a gem of strength and manifestation, commonly used in wish magic and summoning. Use apatite-based ink to write down your heart's desires, then bury the paper under the crossroads under full moon to make the wishes come true. In spells and recipes calling for bones or teeth of an individual, if those are unavailable, use apatite instead, carved with the silhouette and name of the person. Using the same connection, it may be employed in healing spells to mend broken bones, painlessly heal or extract teeth, and remove bite marks. There has been at least one documented case of using carved apatite to bestow a curse of lycanthropy without the victim ever being bitten.
