## Description
A common semiprecious gem in a variety of colors. Used in production of magical lenses and mirrors, it has strong connections to love, communication, and resurrection.
### Physical Description
Colorless mineral composed of beryllium aluminium silicate, growing in hexagonal crystals reaching even several meters in length. Mineral impurities change the color of beryl, creating gem-quality varieties known as aquamarine (pale blue, p. 58), emerald (deep green, p. 100), morganite (pink), heliodor (yellow), as well as golden, red, and vanadium beryl. Colorless beryl is sold by gem-cutters under the name of goshenite.
---
## Occurrence
Beryl is a common mineral found in many granitic rocks, mica schists, limestone, and often accompanied by quartz, feldspar, muscovite, and tourmaline.
### Extraction & Preparation
While extraction of beryl is straightforward, its preparation requires care and precautions. Beryllium dust generated during cutting, grinding, and polishing is highly toxic, leading to acute or chronic poisoning (berylliosis) and increased probability of lung cancer. Use masks, filters, and proper ventilation when handling beryllium compounds.

## Properties
### Decorative Properties
The primary use of beryl is as a gemstone. The value depends on the clarity and color, which may be enhanced by heating or radiation. Colorless beryl is valued very low, while vividly colored red beryl and emerald can reach the highest prices.
### Industrial Properties
Polished goshenite is sometimes used in manufacturing mirrors, lenses and eyeglasses due to its transparency, light weight, and ability to hold its shape across the wide range of temperatures. It is also used as an ore of beryllium.
### Magical Properties
Goshenite stimulates awareness and makes its bearer conscious of dangers. Used as a lens, it allows observation of magical energies and identification of items and effects. It revives soul and body, pushes back death, and is employed in resurrection rituals. It can bring back ghosts of family members and grant their aid. Set in gold, it lightens the mood and inspires open, harmonious communication. Beryl despises falsehoods and will turn black if held by a person giving a false testimony. Golden varieties enhance clairvoyant and clairaudient abilities, sharpen physical skills and mental acuity. Use them in the form of mirrors to aid divination and astral travel. Additionally, heliodor promotes confidence when working with animals, helping one tame wild beasts and befriend neighboring cats. Rose-pink morganite is a gem of delicate, soft feelings. It inspires devotion, compassion, equality, empathy, and patience, especially between lovers. Often given as a wedding gift, it encourages exploration of love in the relationship and establishes firm yet sensitive boundaries. It motivates growth into a more mature, loving life. Light green vanadium beryl brings prosperity and harmonious growth. It protects the balance as one tries to reach their goals, bestowing the wisdom to rest and relax while conquering the world. Red beryl promotes self-worth and self-motivation, granting one with permission to move forward regardless of the world's opinion. It helps release false expectations and accept the reality of one's circumstances.
