They are typically preventative or protective in nature. | ### Ingredient Types | **Ingredients** | **Description** | | ------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | 🞛 Extracts | These are the base components for crafting alchemical concoctions and are made from specific concentrated ingredients.

There are six categories of extracts, each created from specific raw material and through specific refinements, treatments, and/or alchemical processes.
1. Ashes
2. Essences
3. Salts
4. Sublimates
5. Suspensions
6. Vitriols | | 🞚 Raw Ingredients | Typically found, harvested or purchased, some ingredients are created alchemically due to their rarity and limited availability. Raw ingredients tend to be expensive or time-consuming to cultivate if not readily available (to be found or purchased). | | 🞜 Solutions | Solutions are incredibly precise combinations of solutes and solvents. Solutions are often used to chemically react with or activate added extracts and raw ingredients. Solutions, for most of arcane alchemy, need to be precise and highly saturated, thus, are learned in advanced alchemy classes. | ### Creation Cost & Time | **Alchemist Level** | **Creation Slots** | | ------------------------- | ------------------ | | Level 0 –
Novice | 1 | | Level 1 –
Intermediate | 2 | | Level 2 –
Advanced | 3 | | Level 3 –
Superior | 4 | | Level 4 –
Master | 5 | All creation slots are utilized over an 8 hour period. | **Rarity** | **Alchemy DC** | **Alchemy Die** | **Slot Cost** | | ---------- | -------------- | --------------- | ------------- | | Common | 10 | 1d4 | 1 | | Uncommon | 15 | 1d6 | 1 | | Rare | 20 | 1d8 | 2 | | Very Rare | 25 | 1d10 | 3 | | Legendary | 30 | 1d12 | 4 | ### Performing Alchemy > [!faq]- Alchemy Creation Example > To create a ***Potion of Watchful Rest***, you'll need to follow the steps listed below: > > **1. Gather ingredients** > The ingredients for a Potion of Watchful Rest are: > 🞜 Alkhest Solution > 🞛 Mandrake Root Sublimate (Extract) > 🞚 Ginseng > For this example, we'll assume you've purchased Alkahest Solution and Ginseng prior. > > 2. Roll an alchemy check to see how well you perform the process of making this potion. > The DC is equal to... > *the rarity of the creation* - *your alchemist level* - *your [[Abilities#Intelligence|Intelligence]] modifier* (a minimum of 0), - *your proficiency bonus* (only if you are proficient with Alchemist's Supplies) > - Upon success, you waste no ingredients and proceed at a normal pace. > - Upon [[#failure]], you waste materials and proceed at a slower pace. > > 3. **Create extract(s).** > In this case, you succeed and now you'd need to make ***Mandrake Root Sublimate*** which will cost 1d4 *Mandrake Roots* - *Intelligence modifier* (to a minimum of 0) per potion. > > 4. **Add remaining ingredients.** > All other listed ingredients take 1 times the value unless otherwise stated. > In this example, 1 Alkhest Solution and 1 Ginseng will be consumed. ### Failing An Alchemy Check On a failed alchemy check, roll an *alchemy die* - *your alchemist level*, to see how many ingredients are lost (resulting in a minimum of 1). You must roll for both *extracts* and *raw ingredients*. For time wasted (resulting in a minimum of 1 hour), roll an *alchemy die* - *your proficiency bonus—only if you are proficient with alchemist's supplies*. ## Recipes Alchemical recipes are often written in code. They are near impossible to decipher for the untrained and uninitiated. As such, those who study alchemy hoard recipes in collective books like the ones listed below: - [[H01.
