# Glassblower
## Overview
- **Primary Tool:** Glassblower's Tools
- **Primary Ability:** [[Abilities#Dexterity|Dexterity]]
- **Available Checks:**
- Assess the quality, thickness, clarity, or structural integrity of a glass object
- Identify the composition, regional origin, or maker of a glass piece
- Detect inclusions, stress fractures, or hidden contents within a glass object
- [[#Performing Glassblowing|Perform a glassblowing check]]
### Creation Types
| **Creations** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| Vessels & Containers | Vials, bottles, decanters, and flasks. The most common glass products; used across alchemy, medicine, and daily life. |
| Lenses & Optics | Magnifying lenses, prism pieces, and viewing glasses. May improve Investigation checks, enable long-range viewing, or focus light for use in traps or signals. |
| Decorative Works | Statuettes, ornaments, stained glass panels, and art pieces. High monetary and artistic value; popular among nobles and temples. |
| Instruments & Components | Glass tubing, alchemical apparatus, lantern globes, and scientific tools. Used to support alchemy, navigation, and engineering. |
| Enchanted Glass | Magically attuned objects such as scrying surfaces, one-way mirrors, force-capturing panes, or heat-resistant constructs. |
### Ingredient Types
| **Ingredients** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| 🞛 Cullet & Refined Silica | Pre-melted glass chunks (cullet) or refined sand preparations that melt evenly and predictably. Processed from raw silica through filtering, washing, and preliminary melting. |
| 🞚 Raw Silica & Minerals | Raw sand, ash, limestone, potash, and metallic oxide pigments (iron for green, cobalt for blue, gold for red). Found in nature, mined, or purchased in bulk from quarriers. |
| 🞜 Flux Compounds & Colorants | Precise mineral and chemical blends that lower the glass's melting point, determine clarity, introduce color, and establish magical conductivity in enchanted pieces. Must be measured with care. |
### Creation Cost & Time
| **Glassblower Level** | **Creation Slots** |
| --- | --- |
| Level 0 –
Novice | 1 |
| Level 1 –
Intermediate | 2 |
| Level 2 –
Advanced | 3 |
| Level 3 –
Superior | 4 |
| Level 4 –
Master | 5 |
All creation slots are utilized over an 8 hour period.
| **Rarity** | **Glassblowing DC** | **Glassblowing Die** | **Slot Cost** |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Common | 10 | 1d4 | 1 |
| Uncommon | 15 | 1d6 | 1 |

### Performing Glassblowing
> [!faq]- Glassblowing Creation Example
> To produce a ***Lens of Far Sight***, an Uncommon optical instrument that grants advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks involving sight at distances greater than 60 feet, follow the steps below:
>
> **1. Gather ingredients**
> The ingredients for a Lens of Far Sight are:
> 🞜 Clarity Flux Compound
> 🞛 Crystal Silica Cullet (Refined)
> 🞚 Raw Quartz Sand
> For this example, we'll assume Clarity Flux Compound has been purchased from an alchemist.
>
> **2. Roll a glassblowing check to determine the precision of the lens.**
> The DC is equal to...
> *the rarity of the creation* — *your glassblower level* — *your [[Abilities#Dexterity|Dexterity]] modifier* (minimum of 0) — *your proficiency bonus* (only if proficient with Glassblower's Tools)
> - Upon success, you waste no materials and the lens is ground to specification.
> - Upon [[#Failing A Glassblowing Check|failure]], you waste materials and the process takes longer.
>
> **3. Refine and melt silica.**
> In this case, you succeed and now need to prepare ***Crystal Silica Cullet*** from raw quartz sand, which costs 1d6 *portions of Raw Quartz Sand* — *Dexterity modifier* (minimum of 0) per lens.
>
> **4. Add remaining ingredients.**
> All other listed ingredients are consumed at a 1-to-1 ratio unless otherwise stated.
> In this example, 1 portion of Clarity Flux Compound is consumed.
### Failing A Glassblowing Check
On a failed glassblowing check, roll a *glassblowing die* — *your glassblower level* to see how many ingredients are lost (resulting in a minimum of 1). You must roll separately for both *cullet & refined silica* and *raw silica & minerals*. For time wasted (resulting in a minimum of 1 hour), roll a *glassblowing die* — *your proficiency bonus* (only if you are proficient with Glassblower's Tools).
