The most universally useful category of ceramic work. | | Cookware & Utensils | Fired clay cooking pots, plates, cups, and preparation vessels. Heat-resistant and food-safe; used in kitchens, camps, and taverns. | | Decorative Ceramics | Glazed tiles, figurines, vases, and ornamental pieces. Prized for their artistic finish and often used as gifts, decorations, or religious offerings. | | Building Components | Roof tiles, drainage pipes, terracotta bricks, and fired flooring. Durable construction materials made in quantity for architectural use. | | Enchanted Ceramics | Magically attuned vessels that may preserve their contents indefinitely, resist physical damage, store a spell effect, or react to specific substances placed within. | ### Ingredient Types | **Ingredients** | **Description** | | --- | --- | | 🞛 Prepared Clay Body | Wedged, de-aired, and conditioned clay ready for throwing on the wheel or hand-building. Processed from raw clay through soaking, sieving, and thorough kneading to remove air pockets. | | 🞚 Raw Clay & Minerals | Unprocessed earthen clay, grog (crushed fired clay added for texture and strength), and mineral additives. Dug from riverbeds, clay pits, or purchased in dried form from merchants. | | 🞜 Glazes, Slips & Firing Agents | Precise mineral-oxide blends suspended in water and applied before firing. Determines surface color, texture, water-resistance, sheen, and magical conductivity. Must be calibrated to the kiln temperature used. | ### Creation Cost & Time | **Potter Level** | **Creation Slots** | | --- | --- | | Level 0 –
Novice | 1 | | Level 1 –
Intermediate | 2 | | Level 2 –
Advanced | 3 | | Level 3 –
Superior | 4 | | Level 4 –
Master | 5 | All creation slots are utilized over an 8 hour period. | **Rarity** | **Pottery DC** | **Pottery Die** | **Slot Cost** | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Common | 10 | 1d4 | 1 | | Uncommon | 15 | 1d6 | 1 | | Rare | 20 | 1d8 | 2 | | Very Rare | 25 | 1d10 | 3 | | Legendary | 30 | 1d12 | 4 | ### Performing Pottery > [!faq]- Pottery Creation Example > To craft a ***Vessel of Endless Preservation***, an Uncommon ceramic jar whose contents never spoil, rot, or degrade regardless of how long they are stored, follow the steps below: > > **1. Gather ingredients** > The ingredients for a Vessel of Endless Preservation are: > 🞜 Stasis Glaze Compound > 🞛 Prepared Stoneware Clay Body > 🞚 Raw Stoneware Clay > For this example, we'll assume Stasis Glaze Compound has been sourced from an alchemist. > > **2. Roll a pottery check to determine the quality of throwing, forming, and glazing.** > The DC is equal to... > *the rarity of the creation* — *your potter level* — *your [[Abilities#Dexterity|Dexterity]] modifier* (minimum of 0) — *your proficiency bonus* (only if proficient with Potter's Tools) > - Upon success, you waste no materials and the vessel is formed and fired to full specification. > - Upon [[#Failing A Pottery Check|failure]], you waste materials and the process takes longer. > > **3. Prepare the clay body.** > In this case, you succeed and now need to process ***Stoneware Clay*** from raw material, which costs 1d6 *portions of Raw Stoneware Clay* — *Dexterity modifier* (minimum of 0) per vessel. > > **4. Add remaining ingredients.** > All other listed ingredients are consumed at a 1-to-1 ratio unless otherwise stated. > In this example, 1 portion of Stasis Glaze Compound is consumed. ### Failing A Pottery Check On a failed pottery check, roll a *pottery die* — *your potter level* to see how many ingredients are lost (resulting in a minimum of 1). You must roll separately for both *prepared clay body* and *raw clay & minerals*. For time wasted (resulting in a minimum of 1 hour), roll a *pottery die* — *your proficiency bonus* (only if you are proficient with Potter's Tools). > [!note] > Cracked or collapsed pieces during firing count as a total ingredient loss regardless of the die result. Kiln failures are considered catastrophic failures and always result in maximum ingredient loss. ## Recipes Pottery techniques for enchanted ceramics and specialty glazework are passed through studio traditions and kiln masters.
