# Weaver
## Overview
- **Primary Tool:** Weaver's Tools
- **Primary Ability:** [[Abilities#Dexterity|Dexterity]]
- **Available Checks:**
- Assess the quality, weave structure, or origin of a textile
- Identify the fiber type, regional style, or maker of a cloth piece
- Detect hidden patterns, coded messages, or modifications woven into fabric
- [[#Performing Weaving|Perform a weaving check]]
### Creation Types
| **Creations** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| Common Cloth | Plain-woven fabric in linen, wool, or cotton. Sold in bulk for clothing, sacking, and household use. The everyday output of most weaving workshops. |
| Specialty Textiles | Twills, damasks, brocades, and complex-structure weaves. Higher thread counts and intricate patterns command significant monetary value. |
| Clothing & Garments | Finished woven garments — cloaks, robes, uniforms, and formal wear. May incorporate functional features such as hidden pockets or reinforced seams. |
| Tapestries & Art Textiles | Pictorial weavings depicting scenes, heraldry, maps, or histories. May contain information hidden within the pattern, readable only to those who know how to look. |
| Enchanted Cloth | Magically attuned fabric that may resist fire or blades, grant camouflage, provide armor-equivalent protection, or store a woven spell effect activated by the wearer. |
### Ingredient Types
| **Ingredients** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| 🞛 Spun Thread & Yarn | Spun, twisted, and plied fiber ready for warping and weaving. Processed from raw fiber through carding, combing, drafting, and spinning. Thread weight and twist determine the fabric's final drape and strength. |
| 🞚 Raw Fiber | Wool, cotton, flax, silk, or magical creature fiber such as owlbear down, phase spider silk, or displacer beast fur. Harvested, traded, or purchased depending on availability. Fiber source determines base magical potential. |
| 🞜 Dyes, Mordants & Finishing Agents | Precise dye baths, mordant fixatives, sizing agents, starches, and fulling compounds. Determines colorfastness, surface texture, sheen, water resistance, and the magical conductivity of enchanted cloth. |

### Performing Weaving
> [!faq]- Weaving Creation Example
> To weave a ***Cloak of the Still Shadow***, an Uncommon garment woven from phase spider silk that grants its wearer advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks in dim light or darkness, follow the steps below:
>
> **1. Gather ingredients**
> The ingredients for a Cloak of the Still Shadow are:
> 🞜 Shadowfix Mordant (Dye & Fixing Agent)
> 🞛 Phase Spider Silk Thread (Spun Thread)
> 🞚 Raw Phase Spider Silk
> For this example, we'll assume Shadowfix Mordant has been sourced from an alchemist.
>
> **2. Roll a weaving check to determine the quality and magical integrity of the weave.**
> The DC is equal to...
> *the rarity of the creation* — *your weaver level* — *your [[Abilities#Dexterity|Dexterity]] modifier* (minimum of 0) — *your proficiency bonus* (only if proficient with Weaver's Tools)
> - Upon success, you waste no materials and the cloak is woven to full specification.
> - Upon [[#Failing A Weaving Check|failure]], you waste materials and the process takes longer.
>
> **3. Spin the thread.**
> In this case, you succeed and now need to spin ***Phase Spider Silk Thread*** from raw silk, which costs 1d6 *skeins of Raw Phase Spider Silk* — *Dexterity modifier* (minimum of 0) per cloak.
>
> **4. Add remaining ingredients.**
> All other listed ingredients are consumed at a 1-to-1 ratio unless otherwise stated.
> In this example, 1 batch of Shadowfix Mordant is consumed.
### Failing A Weaving Check
On a failed weaving check, roll a *weaving die* — *your weaver level* to see how many ingredients are lost (resulting in a minimum of 1). You must roll separately for both *spun thread & yarn* and *raw fiber*. For time wasted (resulting in a minimum of 1 hour), roll a *weaving die* — *your proficiency bonus* (only if you are proficient with Weaver's Tools).
## Recipes
Weaving patterns for enchanted textiles and tapestry techniques are passed within weavers' guilds and arcane tailoring circles. Known reference works include:
