# The Legend of Accursed Ixsilgar ## Introduction A band of strange and talented individuals for hire come together in [[Beilford|Bælforð /baylforth/]] at the High Priestess' request. Rumors are circulating across the land that the former king, [[Grædig Fornxlꜽr|Lord Grædig Fornxlꜽr]] killed his son and left his body in [[Ixsilgar|Ixsilgar /isuhlgar/]]—a kingdom once known for its great beauty and military prowess now damned and overrun by undead. Others say the king used his heir as a sacrifice to some unholy deity. Rumors aside, the High Priestess claims that the king's heir, [[Hælend Fornxlꜽr|young Lord Hælend]], is still alive and is being held captive somewhere in Ixsilgar castle. As one of these blades for hire, you come to the call of the royal family. Whether it be for patriotism, glory, riches, or acts of dedication, you wish to help quell the royal family's distress. To begin your quest, High Priestess, [[Soxðea Loswældan|Lady Soxðea Loswældan]], has arranged a discreet meeting in the northern reaches of the [[Caedwald|Çædxwald /seiwalden/]] district—outside Bælforð's northern walls. Lady Soxðea intends to pay you half your fee up front and the remaining coin to the blade (or blades) who brings young Lord Hælend back to her alive. The fate of [[Celterra|Çælꞇexra /seltera/]] rests in your hands. --- ## Game Tone & Setting The Legend of Accursed Ixsilgar takes place in a gothic, grim, dark fantasy setting that draws inspiration from medieval middle and eastern Europe. Build characters accordingly. --- ## Setting History & Lore Over 3,000 years before the events of [[Origins - Alpha|Yanis Chronicles Origins: Alpha]] and [[Origins - Omega|Yanis Chronicles Origins: Omega]], [[Human|humans]] first fell to Yanis from the heavens. Because of this, other species would occasionally call humans 'tears of the gods'—or tears for short. Humans congregated all across the realm of [[Celterra|Çælꞇexra]]. During the earliest years of their existence, there was peace and prosperity: Çælꞇexra was a bountiful paradise. Humans in Çælꞇexra only knew their species to exist. Some yearned for more and sailed away from Çælꞇexra but most stayed and cultivated the land. Eventually, clans formed around ideas. From these clans, many beliefs, philosophies, and religions were born. In the year 72 NY—at the dawn of a new age—many clans argued about which beliefs, philosophies, and religions should prevail to be the ruling set for human society. Despite the unrest and disagreement, many agreed that Çælꞇexra was a holy land. Soon, popular collections of beliefs were published in tomes, and were widely distributed, helping form the ***Partisans of Durꜽta*** into the ***Church of Durꜽ*** (or ***Durꜽism***)—the dominate religion of this setting. At a controversial time, during a particularly harsh winter—when many clans clashed and vied for control of Çælꞇexra—strange and alien looking seafarers arrived were spotted near the eastern, coastal settlement of Bælforð. These seafarers traveled with humanoid species the humans of Çælꞇexra had never seen before. Sickly [[Aasimar]], [[Dwarf|dwarves]], and [[Gnome|gnomes]], were aboard this ship, and these new species caused a commotion in Bælforð. The Council of Bælforð gathered and debated over what to do with these foreign refugees. Around this time, it was discovered that these foreigners knew the ways of magic—something humans had never known prior to this point in history. Magic was seen to be a bad omen by the church and many suggested that the ship of refugees be sent away. Some even suggested the strange magic-users be condemned or killed. A lowly baron by the name of [[Widfrið Foranxlꜽr]] thought otherwise. Foranxlꜽr spoke with the outsiders and learned that they were incredible builders and craftsman. He suggested that the people of Bælforð let the new arrivals stay in exchange for their aid in building a new city at the heart of Çælꞇexra. Foranxlꜽr was mocked and dismissed from the council for his suggestion but he knew these newcomers were a gift. Foranxlꜽr used his charm to persuade the church to help these newcomers. With approval from the high priestess, He managed to convince a small group of adventurous townsfolk to set out with him alongside these aasimar, dwarves, and gnomes to build a metropolis—one that would be grander than any other across Çælꞇexra—a kingdom that would become Ixsilgar. The seafarer group, formerly known as the Ꞇançiin pledged unwavering loyalty to Widfrið Foranxlꜽr for 30 years as gratitude for his welcome and protection. 20 years later, the Ꞇançiin delivered on their promise. They built an incredible fortress of a Kingdom—one of unfathomable defenses. --- ### Geography & Locations ```map { "type": "image", "image": "https://publish-01.obsidian.md/access/ddaa225abe6cfd8b1c8c7b6185bdb5db/Assets/Maps/Ancient%20Celterra%20-%20Labeled.png", "zoom": 1, "minZoom": -1, "maxZoom": 4, "maxBounds": true, "markers": [ ] } ``` ***Bælforð.*** The coastal fishing and shipping settlement of Bælforð is located on the eastern shores of Çælꞇexra. ***Çælꞇexra.*** Çælꞇexra is the traditional name for modern day [[Celterra]].
